Incoming Patient Notifications
If your region has access to both EMResource and EMTrack, you can use incoming patient notifications (IPNs) to alert facilities about incoming patients. IPNs provide information about the patient, such as the transport agency, estimated time of arrival, chief complaint, triage category, and vital signs.
In EMTrack, EMS personnel create an IPN and send it to the transport destination, which is an EMTrack provider facility. We can link this EMTrack provider facility to an EMResource resource by assigning them the same Common Facility ID. This allows the IPN to also appear in both EMTrack and EMResource.
To receive IPNs for a resource, you must meet the following qualifications:
-
You have the IPN - Receive Incoming Patient Notifications right.
-
For that resource, you have the Associated, Update, or Reports resource right.
Working with IPNs
With the IPN - Receive Incoming Patient Notifications right, you can view IPNs in the notification center and the Incoming Patient Notifications page.
In the notification center, you must acknowledge the notification to indicate that your facility is aware of the incoming patient. Additionally, you can review the notification details, print the notification, or click snooze to temporarily dismiss the notification. IPNs that have not been acknowledged continue to appear in the notification center for 15 days.
You can also review and acknowledge IPNs on the Incoming Patient Notifications page, which displays IPNs that you or others at your facility have received in the past day. This page can be accessed through the Form section of the main menu.
The Incoming Patient Notification History report contains information about acknowledged and unacknowledged IPNs. You can generate this report if you have the Report - Incoming Patient Notification Detail right and the Reports resource right.
