EMTrack Tornado Readiness and Shelter Planning

To prepare for tornado-related emergencies, make sure EMTrack is configured with everything you need to effectively manage resource tracking, situational awareness, and shelter planning. We've created this Tornado Readiness plan to help you facilitate a faster, smoother response during tornado events.

  • Create Forms: Create or update forms to use in response to tornado emergencies. Prepare forms for multiple scenarios, such as a mass casualty incident, evacuation, shelter planning, or reunification.

Refer to the training video Introduction to Form Management in the Training Center for more information about this step.

  • Create an Incident Type: Create a tornado incident in EMTrack to coordinate resources and keep stakeholders informed. To streamline response efforts, set up a reusable event template for tornado readiness and shelter planning. If you already have a tornado incident type, make sure the details are accurate and up to date.

Refer to the training video Create an Incident Type in the Training Center for more information about this step.

  • Configure Filters and Dashboards: Determine if your existing filters and dashboards are effective for a tornado response. Update or add new filters and dashboards as needed.

Refer to the training video Introduction to Filter Management and Introduction to Dashboard Management in the Training Center for more information about this step.

  • Review Access and Permissions: Users should log in and confirm that they can access all the information and features they need. This will help you resolve login and permissions issues ahead of time. You may need to resolve permissions issues by updating users’ roles.

Refer to the training video Edit a User in the Training Center for more information about this step.

  • Shelter Awareness: Conduct tornado preparedness drills to help the public understand shelter procedures and response expectations. You can also make the readiness and shelter-planning available on the mobile app and website.

  • Download the Mobile App: To improve access to EMTrack, users should download the EMTrack mobile app (available on iOS™, Android™, and FirstNet™). With the mobile app, you can continue to scan or create patients for tracking while offline. This data is uploaded when you reconnect to the internet. If you have already downloaded the app, make sure it is updated to the latest version.

In addition to these steps, you may want to run a tornado awareness drill to verify that everything is configured properly and resolve any issues your users might run into.
