Map Layers

You can use third-party map services to add map layers to the maps in the Operations View, Footprint, Entries, and Tasks modules. These map layers help you analyze incidents by displaying supplemental information such as symbols, patterns, and text. Commonly used map layers include election districts, fire response districts, evacuation routes, and sewer and water lines.

You can manage map layers in various modules using the following options.

Third-Party Map Services

Map layers are generated with third-party map services. To use these services with Crisis Track, you must create or find a relevant service in a third-party platform and copy that service's URL into Crisis Track.

Most commonly, people use services from Esri's ArcGIS. You can create services with ArcGIS Pro or browse existing services within ArcGIS Living Atlas. Crisis Track supports the following ArcGIS services:

  • Map Service

  • Dynamic Map Service

  • Feature Service

  • Vector Tile Service

  • Imagery Service

Crisis Track also supports the following OpenGIS® services:

  • Web Feature Service (WFS)

  • Web Map Service (WMS)

  • Web Map Tile Service (WMTS)

Secured Map Services

You can only access secured map services with a valid token. In this case, you must enter the token to add the map layer. When the token expires, the map layer stops displaying information until someone edits it and enters another valid token. The token's lifespan varies depending on its settings.

Crisis Track has a few indicators for expired tokens. In the maps in the Operations View, Footprint, Entries, and Tasks modules, a red exclamation mark appears next to the map layer's name in the left pane. In the table in the Map Layers module, the preconfigured map layer gains the Invalid status.
