eICS Purpose and Audience
Electronic ICS (eICS) is a market-driven solution designed to help facilities and communities plan for, respond to, and recover from disasters and disruptions.
eICS incorporates elements of the National Response Plan and the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) to successfully guide users through emergency and non-emergency situations including natural and man-made catastrophes, as well as planned events and day-to-day operations.
Individual hospitals, agencies, schools, and businesses use the solution to manage, coordinate, and communicate, but the same workflows can be implemented at the local, state, and/or federal level with hospital, government, emergency medical services, and educational systems.
To take full advantage of integration with Microsoft® Office applications, see the article Microsoft Office Integration.

Actions and tasks you perform in eICS are divided into three main areas that correspond to the Planning, Response, and Recovery phases of an incident command system and work flow. The information you enter in these different areas and how you maintain that information can affect your readiness and ability to respond effectively to an incident.
