Dependency

The FAA Wildlife Strike Board can be configured to submit reports directly to the FAA via an API integration.

Requirements include:

  • The API Handler plug-in (A free plug-in that you can request)

  • An API token from the FAA

To request API tokens, use the email address for the point of contact on the following page: https://qa-wildlife.faa.gov/api/Help.

After you contact the FAA and are given your API credentials for the FAA Wildlife Strike database, add the information to the API Handler plug-in.

To add the information to the API Handler plug-in

  1. Click Add in the Registered API table header.

  2. For Base URL, enter https://qa-wildlife.faa.gov/api/api/

  3. Save and edit the secrets for your new API URL.

  4. To add a new secret, add the following information:

    1. Key: clientid

    2. Value: The clientid included in your email (for example, QA-###-######)

    3. Location: Header

  5. Add a second new secret:

    1. Key: token

    2. Value: The API Token included in your email (for example, ########-####-####-####-############)

    3. Location: Header

  6. Add the final secret:

    1. Key: Access-Control-Allow-Origin

    2. Value: *

    3. Location: Header

  7. From the first page of the API Handler plug-in, under the Registered APIs section, copy and save the ID for the wildlife.faa.gov API endpoint. You will enter this ID during this procedure.

  8. From your Boards, go to the FAA Wildlife Strike Board.

  9. Open the Board Editor and select the Input view.

  10. Replace the following:

    1. Search for (Ctrl+F/Cmd+F) the first occurrence of apiId and replace the values within the quotations with the key you copied in Step #7.

    2. Below that line (or perform a find for the first occurrence of the apiUrl variable), replace the contents in brackets with the path to your WebEOC Nexus.

The board can now submit records and update them directly to the FAA Wildlife Strike’s database.
