Severe
The Severe map selection offers the following severe weather layers:
A Storm Cell is an air mass formed by powerful updrafts and downdrafts moving in convective loops, the smallest unit of a storm system. A supercell is a long-lived (greater than 1 hour) and highly organized storm feeding off an updraft (a rising current of air) that is tilted and rotating. The Storm Cell layer shows any storm cells in the area, color coded by severity and type, for example, hail, rotating, or tornadic cells.
The Lightning Strikes 15 minutes layer shows the number of strikes in the last 15 minutes, with newer strikes in a lighter color than older strikes.
The Fire Points layer shows locations with possible active fires or areas where the fire conditions are elevated, critical, or extreme. Hotspots may go undetected due to cloudy conditions or partial satellite pass.
